Tile Adhesive (Tile Bonding Agent)

Tile adhesive (tile bonding agent) is a cement-based bonding material used to adhere tiles, stone, and other finishing materials. Primarily composed of a blend of cement, graded sand, and various polymer additives, it features high bond strength, water and freeze-thaw resistance, good flexibility, and ease of application (typically using the thin-bed method), effectively preventing tile hollow spots and detachment.

Instructions for Using Tile Adhesive:
I. Substrate Preparation
1. Preparing the substrate before tiling is like applying a base layer before makeup; it directly affects the final result.
2. Remove loose dust and oil: Clean the cement substrate with a wire brush; remove oil stains using a neutral detergent.
3. Leveling: Repair uneven areas exceeding 3mm with cement mortar; reinforce cracks with fiberglass mesh.
4. Dampen the substrate: Wet the surface with water 2 hours before application, ensuring no standing water remains.
II. Mixing
Master these three mixing essentials to ensure the adhesive performs optimally:
1. Powder-to-water ratio: Typically 6–6.5 liters of clean water per 25kg of powder; refer to the packaging for specific instructions.
2. Mixing time: Mix mechanically for 3 minutes, let it rest for 5 minutes, then mix again for 1 minute.
3. Consistency check: When lifted with a trowel, the mixture should form a uniform paste that slides down slowly without dripping.
III. Application Precautions
These operational details determine how securely the tiles adhere:
1. Thin-bed method is more reliable: An adhesive thickness of 3–5mm is ideal; use a notched trowel to create uniform ridges.
2. Open time control: Install tiles within 5 minutes in summer; this can be extended to 10 minutes in winter.
3. Compaction technique: A dull thud when tapping lightly with a rubber mallet indicates good contact.
4. Curing essentials: Avoid walking on the tiles for 24 hours; keep the environment ventilated and dry for 7 days.
